Last one is great!

I like the light in all of them.
May be better with a shallower d.o.f.

This! ^^^ Also the missing right hand in #1. It would be easy to composite these onto a nicer background.

The right hand is therein #1, it's just buried in straw.

As for the BG, I did do a layer mask, darkened the BG a little and added about a 3 gaussian blur.

Understood, however at first glance, it appears to be missing and that's what counts. When someone is posed in front of a tree, and we we refer to it "growing out of the subject's head" we all not it's not really growing out of the person's head, but it looks like it is.

Unfortunately however, it's just an overly-busy and distracting background, particularily in #s 2 & 3 where the subject is framed by light that is several stops brighter than their face. This tends to pull the eye away from the subject; a less than desirable composition in portraiture.
