I'm a beginner and I'd like to take photos of my house at night with my Christmas lights on. Could someone give me a starting point as to what my camera settings should be, then I can adjust from there if it doesn't look good. Thanks in advance.

tripod.

*edit to explain importance of a tripod*

in order to get a sharp shot in a low light setting....such as a night shot with xmas lights...
it is IMPERATIVE that the camera remain still.

i wound recommend maybe F8 with a longer exposure...say a few seconds...depending on ambient light.

trial and error. ;)

Try setting your WB to tungsten. I also use a tripod, an F-Stop of around 10-13 and I set my ISO low like 100 or 200. Then just open up your shutter anywhere from 10 seconds and higher. If you have a remote shutter control the better. :) Happy Shooting and make sure you post up some of the pics!
