How did you get the light effect in #1 vs the light effect in #2?
Very nice!!! I would like to try that while my tree is still up for practice.

I shot the first one wide open (lowest f stop number - 1.8 in my case). In #2, I went in the opposite direction and shot it at f/16 (smallest aperture/highest number) and exposed it for 8 seconds.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that for #1 you need to have shallow DoF meaning that there needs to be some distance between the subject and the lights.

I have to say, for just semi-standard shots of decorations? These are pretty cool.
