Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Just wondering what you all think of my photography.. like i have said before.. i have had no formal classes.. and have learned strictly from trial and error. So any feedback and constructive criticism are wanted.

the rest are on jonathanmphotography.tumblr.com .

I would really appreciate everyone's feedback. I am really trying to hone my phtography so that it appeals to the eyes... and speaks for itself.

It's very good that your trying and asking for feedback!
I'm sorry to report that this particular photo looks very OOF to me and overexposed.
but I like the concept.

You have a very hard lighting and subjects because your range of tones is way too large. You have bright grass on the lighter tone, all the way to really dark skinned female. On the top of that some wear really dark clothings. In order to give details on the clothings, you have to higher the exposure even higher and it will make your background even worse. The only way to make this work is do it when it is not as sunny.. OR tell them to stand together and use flash.

Where to start ...

Poses look unnatural, colors are drab, lighting is drab, models too close to the edge on sides and top, and the red shorts and somewhat brighter than everything else, so naturally that is what catches my eye.

Just a really bad pose. Too far apart, too wooden.

A shot like this is a tall order to begin with, so your result is not surprising. Your background is overexposed and your subjects are underexposed. The only solution I know if is MORE light on your models and adjusting your shutter speed to reduce the ambient light.

The spacing should also be addressed. Too much between the center girl and the ones on right and left, compared to the next two.

lol.. thank you all .. i will say this much.. i was just hanging out with a group of friends.. we weren't really trying to take pictures.. but they were in the grass .. and just as i took out my camera.. they were in a lil semi circle .. so i just told em to look up.. so the poses are as natural as can be. lol.. but thank you all.

yes.. it was very sunny. lol

Just a heads up, spelling and puncuation especially go a long way on this forum. I remember somebody chewing me about it. Just saying, it's nicer to look at so more people read it.

Hey Jonathan. First lesson learned: dont ask a bunch of photo geeks for C&C... Unless its magazine quality all you will get hit with is the "C"riticism end of the stick. Just post as "A photo I took" People will still comment. As for the photo itself, interesting pose, looks like they are all pretty comfortable with you so next time have a little more with angles and camera height. My biggest rule of thumb in the business : Put the camera where you wouldnt put your face. See a couple of my wedding photos like that here. What Youll end up with is a view that your eyes are not used to seeing, and that makes your brain want to look at the photo longer. Get closer to one of the girls with the others further off. Shoot from the ground, or over one of their shoulders or anything unique. With young people like in your photos, they want a little more edge, so push your limits a little. Then push some more.. If you do, you'll be on top Giving these guys the harsh C&C!! :)

So we're useless and you are the bees knees (without looking at your link)? :er:

Thanks, I'll stop posting my thoughts. I'm sure there are many that will be happy with that decision.

Somehow looking at your link isn't gonna fill me with the warm and fuzzies..... to be continued. I reserve the right to be wrong.

EDIT:
Viewed your link.

Kundalina, dont take offense if you think you fell into the category "Photo Geek" . its not an insult, one day I'll achieve such stature. But I'm just guessing that since jonathan is a super newbie (much like myself) hes probably looking for a little criticism with some pats on the back too. Thats all i did.

The girl in the middle looks like a zombie.

I looked at your web site. You shot yourself in the foot with this photo. It's more than awful. I can't find the words to describe how bad it is. If I had to wake up every morning for the next year with this image staring me in the face, I would shoot myself. With my luck I would only be wounded, then incarcerated and as part of my therapy , be forced to peer at this image 5 hours a day for 3 years. That doesn't mean your photography sucks. It means this image SUCKS. Delete as soon as possible. You can do better.

Awwww now... That's just the he hemorrhoids talkin'...
