Co-workers Family Photos

So I offered to take some family photos of one of the guys who works in my shop family, since his parents were coming from the states here to Guam. Having never been to this beach at this particular time I was unsure what the sunlight would be like, even at 830am it was starting to get pretty harsh. Anyhow here are some of the photos!

This is my first family photo session since I started taking photos about 3 years ago, so I've never really done posing or directing or anything of the sort, but I've picked up a few books that I've been reading and will hopefully be better prepared next time.

I love #2. what a fun shot! 3 is cute also. number 1 just looks like it was the first shot out of your camera or something. everyone is standing a bit awkward and is not posed in the least. definitely want to have those posing interacting in some way, acting like they love each other, you know?

mainly it is the woman in the center who is seemingly separating two halves of the photo in the first.

crop the 1st one to center the people.. dog squeaky toys works good to get the babies attention..

Wait you live in Guam but you never been to the beach during that time? Guam is about as big as my back yard :lol:

Theres a ton of beaches.... this one is on base... there are much better beaches that I frequent more often.

It definitely WAS the first shot out of my camera actually haha. I just liked the angle, and how it looks black and white I think.

Lol I can always tell. The first set for me always looks a little stiff and awkward.

You can still recover #1 with selective toning and blurring in Photoshop, if you use this software or perhaps GIMP which is free but I do not know how to use that option there. In PS select Quick Edit then blur the background a little bit so it is not too sharp. The background is too dominating. You've set your metering here to Matrix which is not a good idea really for this kind of shot. I like #3 a lot...it is the creating of interest in the participants and not looking posed or directedly posed that is the good thing here. Family interaction with one another. Then the fun shot like #1 with not too much background. I bet you took more than what you have uploaded here. Would be interested to see more...
