Color problem - Photo of a friend's child

I appreciate the color changes shown here last night. This is my photoshopped version greatly influenced by the cone. The 'real' one I have to work on some more with the background color issue and shadows.

you might want to use flash... it will minimize problems like that. If you are using continuous lighting... you are just causing yourself pain!

I am 'new' into working with the studio concept and recently bought a second flash unit, so actually there was no continuous lighting except from the ceiling lights. I had a SB800 in a softbox in front and to the left a SB80DX (I think it is) to the left with no umbrella.

I have been using the setup for the first time the past few weeks, and primarily I was using it with the dogs (I take a lot of dog photos). The whole setup was real amateurish. Just experimenting and doing different things each time I attempt this. Getting better with the dog photos. Still have a lot of kinks to work out though at all levels. Someone told me to keep ISO at 400 and F-Stop at 5.6 during shoots like this. I am using a D90.

What was your WB set to? Maybe you should consider setting a custom white balance!

ISO 400 should not be needed.. although it would work fine.. but 100 is always better if possible. You should be shooting in MANUAL... and MANUAL FLASH... and your F-stop should be set according the the Guide Number / distance equation.

How far away from the subject were your lights? How big are your softboxes? Remember.. the larger the light source, the softer the light... the closer the light source, the softer the light....

You might also want to SPOT METER... that way a solid color background won't influence the entire shot and throw the color off.. the way evaluative metering will...
