Alright TPF how we doing today? I'm doing fantastic thank you for asking.

Alright my issue/comment/dilemma is:

My friend FOUND a 18-70 nikkor 3.5-5.6 lens on the beach, she is selling it for only $200.00 now the dilemma is, no front lens cap, scratches on the body (not a big deal). When I use the zoom or focus it's a little glitchy I guess is the word for it. No delay or anything, just not smooth I guess. There are however some dust or sand particles inside the lens, now i've been trying it out and not yet have I seen any photo quality mishaps or what-have-you. Now should I really spend money on this lens, to me the only difference is that it goes to 70 instead of my kit lens which goes to 55. Not a real significant issue for me. I mean when I try and get a "wide angle" shot just use my kit lens and i'm pretty impressed with it actually. I don't know what you guys think but I am just dandy and happy with my kit lens.

Any oppinions on your kit lens? Anything added by anybody will be appreciated :D.

why bother covering a range you already have covered...?

Good point D-B-J thank you.

Erose, I completely know what you mean, I wan't with her at the time I cannot speak for her. However I do know for a fact the beach she found it at has no beach authorities. The police office here don't give a hoot about this kind of stuff they will take the info and leave it rot. I know this because I have tried it, however I do definately get your point no harm in trying I guess.

All lenses have dust in them, particularly zoom lenses. There is no way to keep the dust out.

I too would recommend letting the police know of the found lens.

Don't waste your money. You have that focal range covered already. I don't mind my kits lens its the 18 - 105. I use it for my landscape stuff and seems sharp enough. For my portraits though I bought two different primes but thats a different story altogether. I would definetly turn it in to the local police or put an ad in the FOUND section of your newspaper. Firm believer in Karma and she has been known to be a Bioch.
