Compact Flash Card Reader

All right... there are a gazillion of these available on the net. What is the best one to get thats affordable?

I will be utilizing USB 2.0.

i have a san disk image mate 12 in 1, it reads cf. that being said. it pisses me off because it uploads pictures into like 20 different folders instead of like all pictures in one folder. my only problem with it.

I just went to the store and bought the cheapest one I could. It's a Sony, takes like 7 different cards or something.

Any of the card manufacturers are suitable. There does not seem to be many of the compatibility issues as we had several years ago. So about any will work, but I stay with Sandisk as I use there cards. Most are in the $20 - 30 range.

That's really a function of the software not the reader itself.

I am using Nikon transfer to read my files. Most software has a preferences page to setup where to save, how (what format) to save, and in new folders or not. If you used Nikon view NX I could walk you through it, but I see you are a Canon shooter. Sorry.

Uninstall it and simply plug it in without installing the software will probably work.

I use the Image Mate which only accepts CF cards. It comes with software for the one button operation and I didn't install it. Windows will recognize it and install the appropriate driver. Then when you insert the card it just shows up as a drive and you can drag the images to the folder of your choice.

O, ok. I don't use the Canon software to download. I would try putting the card in and looking under my computer for a Canon EOS folder/drive. I normally open DPP to the folder and reveiw them and click and drag to the appropriate folder.

I bought 3 multicard readers from ... Computer Geeks about a month ago at $3.95 ea. I figured that if even one worked it'd be a steal. Got a couple to choose from right now almost that cheap.

All three worked.

And I use two of them all the time, one at home, one at work.

Third one's in a drawer for emergencies!

Readers are dirt cheap.

I have one of the 6 (or 9) in 1 deals that costs less then a lens pen ($10).

I could have got one cheaper, but I wanted reader with it's own power supply.

this is exactly what i was thinking about the other day, i thought about going out and buying a card reader but then i noticed that if i used a card reader it would all come out in the same fonder as oposed to transferring them using the camera software (canon stuff) where it puts it in different folders accoridng to date and stuff, think that i'll probly stick to using the camera

be careful of the cheap models on ebay i bought one and when i inserted my cf card it deleted all of my photos but luckily i just got the camera so there were no pictures of importance
