Photos NOT OK to edit
I am a new member. Compositing is a hobby I enjoy. These vary between around 7 and 12 separate images. The last image is the oldest one I did about 7 years ago.

Another I forgot to add on last post.

Compositing is a hobby I enjoy.

I particularly like the one with the elephant and (Mayan?) temple. Maybe some scope for collaborating on childrens' books with this type of imagery?

I have no partocular objective in mind, at least right now. I do these for relaxation and it does challenge me to constantly be honing editing skills.

What's the starting point with these pictures? How do you begin?

I have no formula to follow. I will be looking at an image and an idea forms and I go from there. By the time I finish I may have changed directions numerous times. For example, the 20 Mule Team image was originally shot on a paved road in front of a Home Depot store. The cliff background was a shot I took at Arches. The moon was one of many I had in my archives. I probably changed directions at least a dozen times until it finally fell into place. There is usually a starting image I work around but sometims that even changes. There are times when you just cannot get images to work homgenously and is a big reason the direction meanders around so often.

I was just curious, this kind of fantastic, surrealism can go wherever you wish I guess; it reminds me a bit of the imaginative album sleeve art from the 1970s - skilled graphic art using airbrush and photomontage and stuff.

You could use poems/songs as a framework.

Wow! We think alike. Just yesterday I was listening to some music and a modern version of The Sound of Silence was playing. The words "Hello darkness, my old friend" rang out and gave me a direction to head on a concept that was bouncing around in my head. Inspiration comes in many forms and many times unexpectedly.

Something to get the ball rolling. Then it takes on a life of its own. I think that's a useful way into painting, music improv.
