Composition round 2

Following of from last night and i put some real thought into what i wanted my photo's to show. I spent some time learning more about depth and lighting.

What do you think?

What have i learned?? Well looking back at these pictures, not much apart from knowing that i need to iron my backing sheet before using it again.

Was a little eagar to get some feedback on pics i was taking so may have posted hastely. i did learn more about DOF and creating a picture from nothing. A long way to go though

I can see you're working on depth of field but I'm not sure exactly what else related to composition you're working on. I agree about the background; it seems distracting and maybe even a plain wall could work for practice shots.

This reminds me somewhat of taking art classes and doing a study, where some objects were displayed and the purpose was to work on technical skills in drawing, like getting the perspective etc. in a drawing done properly.

I'm not sure what aspects of composition you're working on, but if you search Elements of composion in art (instead of photography) that should give you some sites with info. on the elements like shape, space, line, form, color, value/tone, balance. I don't think there's any quick easy way of learning composition as it involves a number of concepts that work together.

I think that you are a little far away from your subject in the latter images, and it would be a stronger image if you were in closer. Also, I think you have built a vertical image, not a horizontal one. Do you see how the ball and chalk are taller than they are wide? That lends itself to a vertical shot. Also, it looks to me like you've just started studying composition and tried to use the rule of thirds and placed everything on the bottom right intersection. (If you don't know what I'm talking about it, look it up. It is important.)



Here's what the image would look like turned vertical with a crop. Doing this place both the top chalk and the #on the ball at the intersections, and the base of the chalk pyramid also creates a strong leading line. Bringing it in tighter and using composition fundamentals help the two elements play off of each other.

Final note: yes, the background is wrinkly and that is distracting, but I wouldn't worry about that too much right now. Keep working on your photography basics, and then make sure the backdrop is wrinkle free.

I think getting a bit closer will make the shoot better , these background look distracting
