controlling aperture when using close up rings

How can I control aperture when shooting with the lens reversed or using a close up ring? The aperture always go to f22.

what camera body and are you using a newer digital lens with contact plates or an older lens with the aperture lever on the lens?

Not sure what lens or body you are using but....

for manual lever lens


for digital contact lens

1. With the lens attached (not with extension tubes), set your aperture
2. Press and hold the depth-of-field preview button.
3. Press the lens release button and remove the lens.
4. Keep holding the depth-of-field preview button down while you put the extension tube(s) on the camera body.
5. Attach the lens onto the end of the extension tube(s). When it clicks into place, you can release the depth-of-field
6. preview button.

OP must be using a Nikon camera. A Canon would go to F.0 instead of F22. With a Canon there is a trick to control the aperture but i don't think it can be done with Nikon...
