The tonal range and separation are terrific and the lines are strong. The textures also seem interesting, but I think I'd have to see it much larger for that to really have an impact. Overall I think it works well. The sign bothers me a little because I'd really like to see the stairs behind it, but I suppose going over and removing it would be frowned on ...

Thanks. I worked hard to get a nice range and separation.

It's the he top floor of a historic fort so remodeling is frowned upon.

I agree with everything Ken said (although if you do think of removing the sign, doing it at night might be advisable.)

I imagine you already tried it, but lightening the sign is only marginally different.

I like the shot. I keep looking at it and finding interesting things. It's a shot that slows the eye down, so....it works for me. Yeah, I would have loved to see a larger view too, but if that's what you had, it's ok. Good for me.

My back was against the wall as it's the tower of an old fort.

17mm on a full frame.

Personally I think anything wider tends to suffer too much distortion to be useable.

Probably. The thing with shots like this is if the camera isn't in the right spot no amount of leveling will make things look equal.

I really like this shot. I'm kind'a in Lew's camp here. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em". If you can't remove the sign, brighten it and make it part of the scene. Nice shot!
