converting raw

I don't know what pse7 is, but I would use photoshop if you have it

Yep you just need to download the plugin for you camera's raw file for PSE7 and you can convert right there. It makes things easier. I did it with PSE6 before I got Lightroom 2, which is what I use now.

There are other programs available but since you already have PSE7 go ahead and use that. The ACR that comes with PSE7 will recognize the RAW files from your D40.
