What's new

Could you take a look at this pic for me? :)

It's under exposed. Its a shame too, because I think you could have something pretty nice. Did you shoot in RAW? You might be able to salvage something.

Yes, shot in raw. I really didn't think it were underexposed. hmmm.I would be able to bring up the midtones and the shadows a bit.

I like it, but it does seem to be missing something. I think maybe just a little too monochromatic. How about trying a high-contrast mono conversion?

I went to Flickr and looked at the large-sized file...it looks like it needs a bit of finessing in the area where the water ripples meet the highlights...that area looks blown out. ANd, in the darker areas there is an unusual "smudging" in some of the trees...what the heck is that??? And as to the reticulation-type effect seen most in the gray tones: I want to see that in the water's highlihgts also...that effect needs to be global, no selective, for it to "carry over". Like so,so many digital images, this one appears lacking in textural representation, which is something that the Nik Efects people have developed software for. Alternate methods include using a high percentage, low radius, ZERO threshold pass of Unsharp Masking, in an effort to build local contrast and to make the image appearto convey more "textural information"...that's what it's lacking--the feeing of "texture", or three-dimensionality...the image looks very "flat"

Done, how's this :)

Thanks for commenting!

Ohh, derrel, you're right. I didn't notice the bad clone job on the left side! It looks awful! Also, the noise reduction really took its tall on the detail in the trees. Perhaps a version without noise reduction would be better.

I have one more version where I've tried to bring out textures (in the trees)...and a little more depth. I'm not sure, it looks fake. Man, perhaps this picture just is a lost cause :P

Ha ha it's ruined now. I like the first one, it might not be perfect but it's got something that make me enjoy looking at it. I could do without the haze, but it looks like it might be coming off the lake or something...

One thing that it took me a while to learn when I first started taking pictures was this:

Not every image or scene makes a good picture.

Maybe this will work?

I think this picture could benefit by shooting slightly at a lower angle.

I agree, slightly lower angle, and maybe include a bit of the horizon over the mountains. I can see it in the reflection, but it seems kinda off balance IMO.
