Bought a little camera bag that fits just my 20D and the kit lens I have never had a use for before, which fits in my MTB bag really well. Here are the results after 2 outings.

Unfortunatly the issue I haven't resolved is that photo taking was secondry to enjoying the ride so I didn't spend too much time thinking about shots ect.
...Next time. Either way I'm enjoying using manual controls on a ride instead of using the compact. 
Went over the bars twice but camera was OK on my back thank god. Not so preciouse about the bike because I figure a mountain bike should have some scratches. Besides, parts are easier to replace.
- note - 2 and 3 are way steep[er than it looks, especially 2 lol
