couple of castle photos

Any opinions on these?
Did a bit of HDR on them but not sure about the clarity...it is foggy in the background
...castle is built on cliff face same colour as rocks.

For me it's hard to appreciate the fact that it's a castle. It seems lost in the mix with everything else. Also just an FYI you have either a dirty sensor or lens cuz your image has spots.
Just my opinion of course.

Agree; the castle really gets lost in amongst the rest of the detail. The second photo has the best crop/composition, but the worst lighting. Unfortunately, I suspect that this may be one of those images that you just aren't able to capture the way you see it in your mind, and agree to that your sensor is VERY dirty.

it could be the fog creating that lighting or maybe the hdr?
How do you know whether it's the sensor or the lens that's dirty?

I applaud the original designers of this castle for building it in such a way as to blend into the surrounding.

Dust on the lens will look like smaller specs than dust on the sensor which will be larger in the photo and gray. Also, if you clean your lens and retake the photo, you will notice if the spots are missing or not.

The camera is a ES 400 which has a dust cleaner on the sensor so shouldn't it clean itself?

Actually, that's not what castles were designed to do at all! They're meant to stand out and scare the **** out of invaders and would-be rebels! I suspect it was built on that rock to make it near-impossible to besiege and it may have lost some height over the centuries.

I disagree that ALL castles were built with the sole purpose of scaring off would-be intruders. I may be wrong but it would seem that humans love to be their own person and design as they see fit. Blending into the rocks may have well served as camouflage.

What castle is that OP?

It's in the South of Spain near Granada (Salobrena castle), it was actually a holiday home castle of the Alhambra Palace.

Is the calrity of these ok? I cleaned the lens and can't see the spots anymore.
