It would help to get some poses where her head is closer to his, despite their "actual" height differences. The light in #1 is okay. In #2, the woman has kind of "squinty" eyes. In #3 she's a bit better, and the subtle rim lighting on the edge of her face shows that the shot was done in decent light. I would brighten up #3 a bit and "lift" it up and make it more-summery feeling.

What many pros do and too many others forget is to dress your models/couples. The cross stripes on the guy's shirt are NOT flattering to his weight and neither are the bare arms of the dress of the woman. Notice that her outfit in the first shot covering the top part of her arm is much more flattering as is her hair style in that shot. You also need to choose more poses that de-emphasize the height difference between them such as shot 1. Watch body parts as well, since in the last shot you are cutting the woman off at the elbow which is a no/no in shooting portraits.

The first image I posted I used a 430ex speedlite. It is new and I am just learning to use it. I also purchased a clear fong lightsphere. I am noticing my catchlights are like pinpoints (seem too small) and occasional red eye. It has been recommended that I buy a bracket and cable to get the flash off of the camera. I do not have the money right now to purchase anything else, and wanted to know if this is important and something I SHOULD purchase. I am still learning the flash in general ( it does have the ability to be used as a slave). I also have a 43 inch reflector... but I typically am doing the shooting alone and cannot aim it properly. Thank you for any tips relating to the lighting issues I am facing.... I feel like I am close... I just have to figure it out
