Cousin + puppy

I am still new to photography, but i took this picture of my cousin and my 6 month old dog. I accidently forgot to change the ISO from 400, which it was at for pictures of my sister's lacrosse game that i was taking. I realize my aperture number should have been something more around 8-11, because the dog's face looks like it is crisp, but my cousins face is not. I may be wrong though. Anyway, here are the specs, constructive criticism is appreciated. Thanks

Yea, I think you are right about the aperture, but it's still a nice shot. Beautiful dog, I wish I could see a bit more of his/her body.
