Craigslist low-balling

I had listed two lenses (50 1.4 and 70-300) on Craigslist for sale. I used CL so that I wouldn't have to go through the eBay issues.
A couple of days after the posts, I started getting incredible low-ball offers.
Like $50 for the 50 1.4.

Some so incredibly low that, like the Nigerian scams, I wonder if they really think that anyone would accept them.

Some people go through CL and shoot lowball offers on things they think they can resell. They start low hoping you will come in well under actual value. Then it goes up on ebay for a nice profit.

Could also just be someone that doesnt have the cash for the actual value of the lens hoping someone is desperate enough to let it go cheap enough for them. Cant hurt to ask right?

Could also be someone email farming.
Stranger things have happened.

If you ARE willing to let it go that cheap, i will take it off your hands. I'll even cover shipping and paypal fees. I already have a 1.4 and 1.8, but spares never hurt at that price.

Traveler, I understand there are a lot of folks in the Maine area trying to obtain equipment "on the cheap." Word to the wise...

maybe they think its the 1.8? I just wouldn't respond. And add "firm" or "all reasonable offers will be considered" to your CL add

when I sell anything On graigslist I put No low ball offers,No trades,Cash only sale face to face.There is also some scams with payPal.I had one accept my price then ask for my address to send me the money with out a mention of how they where going to get the item I had for Sale.Thats a Big Red flag of a scam going on.There is a lot of D**k Heads out there.

FWIW: I've had nothing but disappointing experience with CL. Bought nothing so far.

1. Trying to lowball me on a trade.

2. Obvious scam.

3. Sent two e-mails trying to buy something, no return e-mail.

Those three strikes have left a bad fast in my mouth. CL - "Yer OUT!"

I should expect low offers, but this fellow was wanting to trade his computer for firearms, only he wanted them ALL. After several back and forth e-mails, I simply stopped responding. He continued to send for a couple more days.

#2 tried to get me to send money to a third party for a computer.

I've bought my B+W Thin CPL from CL ($35) and my two 200ws monolights (with 2 stands, an umbrella and a softbox) for $100. But I only buy when I can meet the person F2F and check out the item.

I've also sold quite a few things as well.
