I get my custom frames from a variety of sources.

Online, the least expensive I use is probably www.documounts.com. They ship the parts, I do the assembly. I prefer metal frames and at least a single archival mat over an archival hinged mount board. Wood is acidic making archival framing more difficult than metal.

I went to a seminar where one of the presenters had a cool solution to the framing issue. He had his own studio (actually, it's a custom build house that functions as a studio) and he used to have a whole area for making his own frames etc. But the overhead costs (ie time) were killing it. So he found a lab that did a nice thick laminated print and now does glassless framing. He convinced my lab to offer the option to laminate & frame.

I'm not sure how that works when you want a matte around the image, but for a simple product to offer your clients, it seems to be a nice option. Plus, if you are having them shipped to you, or you are shipping them out, the glassless aspect is fantastic. And they do look pretty good.

But when I have sold prints with framing, I just opened up the phone book..(what's a phone book?)....just kidding, I Googled framers and saw that there were many, many framers in my area....and I just picked one that looked good.

Yep. There's a lot of places online you can get good custom frames.

I just spent an hour at ACmoore......lol They had a 50 % off coupon on all custom frames, so I thought.....why not.

24x28 wood frame(nice one) double matte and w/ Non Glare Plexiglass. $160.00
How is that price?

BTW.......is plexiglass taboo?

Not for the larger wall prints. Hanging weight can become an issue if you use glass. I stick with glass up to and including 20x30. Over that I switch to non-glare, UV resistant acrylic.

Acrylic (Plexiglass is a brand name) will have to be replaced eventually, and one has to be very careful cleaning it so it doesn't get scratched.

A big plus for acrylic is it's unbreakable.

I prefer local framers. The shipping costs on frames make the local choice more cost effective.

Consider doing the assembly yourself. The shiping cost for frames/mounts/mats that are not assembled is definately cost effective.

I use it on a lot of mine. I do get the 'non-glare' though. Honestly - I think it looks better than glass. Personal opinion, of course.

A quick look around the room, I can tell pretty quickly what each frame has in it. The 'regular' plexiglass looks the worst, IMO. Glass is not bad, but the non-glare plexi looks really nice. From the other side of the room, it doesn't even look like there's anything in the frame.

Big plus indeed. Makes shipping worry free.
