It was COLD here yesterday morning, as in 21 degrees with 10mph wind gusting to 20 Sunday morning. I was at Radnor Lake when the sun broke over the hills and saw this cute little Yellow Rumped Warbler trying to decide what to have for breakfast:

Hmm ... those look pretty good.

Let's see if I can stretch down here and reach one on the bottom.

Yep! Got it. And they ARE pretty good!

Nice set Scott. Good work keeping a steady hand in the cold climates. I do mind the cold to much but sure wish my camera had hand warmers built in.

Great Habitat and action shots ,Agreed about the sharpness ,Looking Good !

Thanks! There were about a half-dozen of them as well as a couple of Downy Woodpeckers that kept coming back to that tree. I don't know what kind of tree it was but the birds LOVED those little balls for some reason and kept coming back. I was close to them, my lens reported a distance of 23' to the subject, and had plenty of light so there was no excuse for not getting them sharp ;)

So are you getting used to the D7100?
Yeah, kinda sorta. I'm still having problems getting used to the metering. I've always used center-weighted metering the majority of the time with my other bodies but I'm not getting good results with it on this one, everything is grossly underexposed. I switched to spot metering and that's working fine although it's a bit too sensitive for me. I think it's just a function of finding the center-weighted area that suits shooting birds but I haven't done that yet. With a long weekend coming up I should be able to work with it a bit more and see what's going on. The resolution is there, and I'm certainly pleased with that, just some transitional issues to sort out with getting used to it.

Thanks guys.

Nice set. Good of him to sit out on an exposed branch. I am so tired of out of focus foreground branches, leaves, etc.
Yeah, I think anyone who shoots birds or wildlife can relate to branches. They always seem to be part of the problem. As I mentioned there were several of them on this particular tree so I kept bouncing from one to the other trying to keep branches out of the way. I also shot a Downy Woodpecker at the same time but he was determined to half hide behind a skinny branch.

Nicely done, Scott! I especially love that last one, with the berry in his little beak! Those guys are tough to get good shots of, at least for me they are!

It was something about those berries that made them brave. I'm not sure what but I ran across a bunch of Bluebirds in a similar tree a couple of years ago and they behaved the same way. They were a lot more interested in eating those berries than they were watching me, so I just sat on a fence underneath the tree and took photos of them for about 30 minutes.
