Well, since you asked - first impression: This photo does nothing for me. It is just a big blur of monochrome, even though it is in colour. It needs a focal point of some sort and there does not appear to be one.

Odd, how we all see things differently. I liked it for the horizontal lines juxtaposed with the verticals and the nice bokeh which seemed to make the foreground stand nicely against a background of similar color and shape. I am not sure every shot has to have a "startling" or even any specific focal point to be successful. Then again, perhaps I am wrong...again.

The foreground doesn't really stand out enough for me, at least at this size. If it were viewed or printed much larger it might work better.

I looked at this one the other day and decided not to comment since I didn't understand what you were after, and it was an image that didn't work for me, either. But it seemed mean to just tell you that without knowing what you were after...I should have asked, eh? My fault.

So...I agree with you conceptually, that vertical lines coming as a pattern in a horizontal frame can have great eye appeal. In this case (for me, anyway), the Spanish moss, which is beautiful, is too thick and is masking those very vertical lines. It's almost a solid mat in the right side of the frame, obliterating the lines. The tree trunks show more on the left side but are quite close together, and this particular crop feels very closed in, there is no space.

I agree with this point. However, there has to something that the brain can respond to; if not a strong focal point then pattern or geometric shape. None of this is present in this particular composition. But I am guessing this area is gorgeous, with tons of different vantage points that will allow you to achieve your goal.

My two cents. And I could very well be full of sh!t.

I think to a large degree we're all full of caca, but that's okay... Certainly looked better in the camera so a reshoot it will be...sooner or later. It's a hard location to get into and full of frickin gators.
