Hey guys!

Havent written here in a while, but ive been lurking.

I have a question to ask regarding my D300s, and a wide angle.

Currently i own a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 and while i am happy, it keeps seeking and cant focus on anything anymore. when i first got it it was fine.
Im pretty dissapointed right now, and i have sent it in to be checked and serviced.

What i want to ask is, do you suggest any other lens for wide angle use? i was looking at the 14-24 f/2.8 but i cant afford it. i might be able to closer to september, but tis still unknown.

im going to iceland in september and i wanna get the best results possible...

My gear is currently being shown in my signature.

What do you recommend?

Your best bet is the 14-24 is an insanely good lens. However have you looked at some of the Nikon primes? They are also very good and reasonably priced. The D300 has a focus motor so you could get the 20mm f/2.8 AF-D

Have you received the Tokina back from service yet? I'd wait until then. The 20mm on a DX sensor isn't going to be very wide. That Tokina has great reviews and if you are going to stay with that 300s I'd think it's your best bet for wide zoom.

I had the Nikon 10-24mm for a bit and liked it, what I didn't like was shooting wide angle so I got rid of it for my 105mm VR.

It is not the cheapest lens, I sold mine for 720.00- they can be had for less if you bargain hunt.

Wow I love my Tokina 11-16. It hunts in the "dark", but so do my other lenses.

Hope you let us know how that Tokina support worked out for you after its all said and done.

Why not just focus manually with your current lens? It's not like it's difficult to nail focus with an ultra wide.

@ 11mm and f/8 you have DoF from 0.39m - infinity when focused to 0.8m
@ 16mm and f/8 you have DoF from 0.83m - infinity when focused to 1.7m

Pretty sure you'd be fine to go with djacobox372's suggestion...
