Hi.
Since they use the same body, the same features, the same capability, although d3000 has a higher mp, what other differences are there between a D40 and a D3000 and which is the better camera?

To me the biggy is that the D40 can sync flash at any of it's shutter speeds.

Additionally, the D40 has a NATIVE flash sync of 1/500 which is FAR superior than the D3000's 1/200th (when shooting fill flash in daylight, for example).

D3000 has 11 focus points vs 3, it's actually more like the D60 than the D40 - D3000 is also slightly larger than the D40, but not by much.

Our buddy Ken Rockwell has a little page on the ISO comparison between the two as well, it wasn't until the D3100 that Ken's beloved D40 got knocked off it's totem pole.

I think the D3000 has a bit of an edge.... but not much.

The D3000 has 11 point autofocus, the D40 only 3... but the middle is still the most accurate, so how much do you use the other 8?

The D3000 has a 10MP sensor, the D40 only 6. Unless you are printing 20x30" prints... that dosen't mean much either.

The D3000 has Adapative Dynamic Range which darkens the highlights and britens the shadows automatically, but if you are shooting in RAW, that's irrelevant because you adjust the curves post processing. This also doubles the processing time reducing your fps by half.

The D3000 has a sensor cleaner... which is definatly a plus.

The D3000 has a 100 ISO, the D40 only goes to 200. But, the D40 has better ISO capabilities, 200 looks the same on the D40 as 100 does on the D3000, so its a wash.

That's all Nikon advertises, but it can natively x-sync all the way to 1/4000. FP sync is not needed above 1/500.

The D40x is 10.2 MP, and that it the D40 most people are interested in now adays anyway.
