D50?

Is the Nikon D50 compatible with both AF-S and AF lenses with no need of manual focus? Or does it follow the Nikon Tradition with the D40 and D40x?

D50 came out before the D40. It's essentially a D70/D80 without some of the extra software features. It is not like the D40 in regards to lenses

It can Auto focus any lens you put on it. Unlike the d40 which can only use AF-S lenses.

Also AF lenses focus inside the camera body. AF-S focus in the lens. Thought it might help answer a question...
