D7000 battery grip. Is it real or a very good replica?

Not to come across as an elitist or anything but I fail to see the logic in spending in the neighborhood of $1200 US for a really good camera and then looking for the cheapest possible grip. These grips are usually bought to increase the usefulness of the camera and so it might just be attached to it most of the time. Why cheap out? Go cheap on marginal stuff or on accessories only used once in a while, not on the most useful one after an external flash.

I didn't set out to buy the cheapest grip. I just bought one that was 1/5th the price Nikon charges, and it still works just fine. I don't shoot hand-held all day long, since most of my shooting is with a tripod and using a grip would be unnecessary as well as add unneeded weight to the tripod.

I spent $26,000 for my truck, but I have an $8 TI calculator in it because that $8 TI calculator does what I need one to do in my truck. My work van, however, carries my $200 HP 48G+ because an $8 calculator won't hack it at work. I use a $50 grip because it does what I need it to do, and a $250 won't do anything more than a $50 one will. If I shot hand-held all day long, I would have sprung for the Nikon.

I bought two aftermarket grips. They survived over 8000 miles on the bike plus my D7000's havoc with no issues to report. I bought the 1st one, then gave it to my brother for his D7000 and bought another

Anybody can buy whatever they want for what ever reason, be it financial constraints or whatever. You pay your money and you take your chances.

At the top of page xvii of the d7000 owners manual is a section on the use of non-Nikon electronic accessories. A sentence in the second paragraph says "The use of non-Nikon electronic accessories could damage the camera and may void your Nikon warranty."

It would be a shame to void a warranty for a $50 or a $60 or even a $150 third party grip. Battery grips would very likely be considered electronic accessories.

I'm not saying third party grips are inherently bad, or for that matter, inherently good, only that you do take a chance when you attach one to your expensive camera.

Lets say I put a cheap grip on my expensive nikon camera and it fried my camera......How would Nikon ever know I even had a cheap grip on my expensive Nikon camera....Its under warranty there gonna fix it.

Your post implies you would know the grip caused the damage and that you would nevertheless initiate a warranty claim without disclosing all the pertinent information. Do you not find this a bit unethical, or even fraudulent?

Hmmm interesting. Seems aftermarket 3rd party batteries are popular by most on this forum.

I just used a 24.00 can of paint to paint the front room of my 206,000 home....Does that mean I messed up

Maybe.....

If you were trying to sell your home and said $24.00 can of paint had been tinted lime green, but who knows, lime green could be popular for front rooms in your neighborhood.

But seriously, it is unlikely that in the event of a catastrophic structural failure of your home the insurer or the underwriter of your home warranty, if you have one, could link the $24.00 paint to the failure. Check your policy to make sure though. Nikon, in the documentation that came with your camera, do give themselves that option in the case of non-Nikon electronic accessories.

You would be amazed what Nikon can decern when they look at a malfunctioning camera.

How much do you know about electronics, and electronics failure modes? How much experience do you have with Nikon USA service?

Nikon lets people know everyday that the problem with their still-under-warranty-camera won't be covered by the warranty, and how much it will cost to have the camera repaired.

By the way. Try changing the title on one of the threads you started several days ago. :lmao:

going back to the subject. return your fake MB-D11 and use a portion of the money returned to by a 3rd market grip at $40 (it's probably the same one, just not trying to pose as a real nikon).

the 3rd party vs name brand issue will always be debated. i have a Neewer grip on my camera only because when i stand back and assess the situation, i come to this conclusion: I don't want to spend $260 on a piece of plastic what is essentially a button with 2 wheels attached. i just don't think the price warrants the technology that went into it. It's a case of brand snobbery. same thing with LV luggage that cost $35,000.

i really doubt that the grip is going to fry my camera. especially since i use a nikon battery on it. $50 for a battery that i know won't fail and will last years IS worth it in my opinion, and isn't worth saving the extra $20. Looking back on a $260 purchase that i knew was worth $40 will make me kick myself.

Holy s.h.i.t! Why does the MB-D11 cost so much $$$? I recently bought a MB-D80 for my D90 and it was around $135 on Amazon.
