I was shooting outside today, using the pop up flash in commander mode. It took about 3 shots, fully working. On the 4th shot, my SB-900 made the "did not fire properly" whining sound. I checked the camera, everything looked good. The pop up flash was in commander mode, set so that it doesnt contribute to the exposure, it was set on the right channel... everything was fine. I did about 10 test shots, putting the pop up flash in commander mode, ttl mode, manual mode and repeating mode... nothing triggered the flash.
Right before the flash died, my camera was set at ISO100, f2, 1/400, manual mode. Battery was at half full, the top display showed the flash as being up. When I put the camera in auto mode and low light, the flash pops up, shutter speed goes no lower than 1/60 (as it would if the flash was working), but no flash fires. It was about -4degrees celsius outside.
I've tried re-installing the battery, resetting my settings, turning the camera on and off. I did a quick google search, but nothing came up.
The camera didnt fall, it just sat on the tripod and stopped working
Anyone know what's going on?
