This was from my first shoot with people that are not my family so I was a little nervous, so any advice will be much appreciated

i love this. I don't know what it is about the comp of this photograph, but I love it.

I would have to say that neither of the expressions are particularly great. Also, the skin tones seem pretty underexposed to me.

The child has a pensive look, which not many people capture. So for that, great image.
I don't think having the dad there adds anything to image, he is so blurry that he isn't noticable. So I'd consider cropping him out.
I do agree on the slight under exposed skin tones
