Hey guys here are a few shots I did over the weekend I have been playing around with the Dave Hill editing style.

all images were shot in RAW then edited with the RAW editing I just played around with all the levels

A lot of Dave Hills stuff is composite. So it appears he will take a photograph (or create) a background, then photograph each subject separately to ensure they are all exposed perfectly (lots of rim light). Then he combines them into one shot, that often times could not have been possible to do with one single frame.

He photography is awesome, his PP is magic.

He does a lot of light painting.

Uhhhh... Have you watched any of DH's behind the scenes videos? He uses a whole ass load of post processing. He shot THIS in his driveway. In front of a garage.

I'd say quite a bit of it is Photoshop wizardry.

I agree with KmH. Dave Hill definitely does quite a bit of post processing (hesitant to use PP now, after the joke ). However, you can't get his "look" without great, and I mean great, lighting. The lighting is, IMO, the most important aspect of his photos. You can't just take any photo and process it the way he does and get his look.

Exactly. I mean if you seriously look at a good majority of his photos, you will see that most of the lighting would be impossible to achieve with one single shot. The scuba diving shot, the hang gliding shot, the water fight shot, etc etc. He nails the lighting, but he nails it individually and then merges all the perfectly lit elements together.
I mean really, rim light on 5 subjects all at different angles and depths in a scene with no spill over?!?
