De-saturated-look ?

just wanted to get an opinion on other photographers about this look, Everyone on facebook loves it but that doesnt say much.

Not as sharp as I want it to be, its only a 2000px image but I hsot it at like 1/40th by mistake

The framing on this photo makes almost no sense whatsoever. None. Why is the girl so low in the frame???

I think it's pushed too far. It might just be because she' a little girl but it looks weird with a few red areas and then her having grey skin.

Idk prolly cause I was just trying to capture the action and didn't think long enough about the framing?

I kinda like the framing. There's a good sightline across the negative space there, so she fits into the frame just fine. Not sure I love having so much of the tree there, and it would be stronger all around (but still essentially the same image) if the camera had been panned a hair to the left. I think it's too de-saturated, and I think the de-saturated thing is just a crummy/cheap derivative of the vintage filters people love so much. It's definitely not a "portrait" though.

Isn't there some awful line of birthday/etc cards that use selective and de-saturated colors, often of pictures of little kids in cute hats? This reminds me of those.

Pushed too far into the "almost" selective coloring look, IMO. Try raising the blacks which will give it some pop.

It's funny the difference a real photographer sees a photo compared to the rest of the world. But if the client loves it, would you sell it to them like this?

It can work and you need to make it your own. If that is going to be your style, make it your style and make it your own.

She "fits into the frame just fine"???? WTF???? She is falling OUT OF THE FRAME...you must be out of your mind if you think you can justify this snap with such an utterly laughably, feeble rationale...seriously man...incredibly feeble C&C on that point... " She fits into the frame". zOMG! Hilarious!

I like the desaturated look here. I think it's works for certain kinds of subject/imagery.
