I own a strobe that I usually use for my portrait/people photography.

However, I find that after each flash it takes several seconds to load before it can flash again. I mean even up to one minute at times. When you do mostly children/baby photography, this is VERY inconvenient. Is there some way I can reduce this lag? I do use double A batteries. I know you can by a special rechargeable battery for it, would that help?

I've got three clients this week and would like to figure it out before then!

It's called the recycle time and how long it takes depends on a number of factors:
  • the flash unit make and model
  • the flash mode used
  • the power level setting of the flash unit
  • the battery type used
  • how much charge remains in the batteries
That you didn't include the flash unit make and model is a tell.

It is an Olympus FL-36.

The Quantum Turbo battery was always a pain in the butt...the much smaller Quantum Battery 1 design was/is still my favorite. It costs substantially less, and still provides 2-4 second recycle times over hundreds and hundreds of flashes.
