Wow! Thank you all for your responses! Lew, I really appreciate you taking the time to show the light on the histogram...I actually didn't even look at the histogram of the shot which is unusual for me.

Charlie, I don't take any offense to your first post, in fact I actually laughed out loud! You are blunt and sarcastic (at least that's what I think was your intended response) and appreciate that. I don't offend easily.

To be honest I converted to B/W because the colours of the blanket and his shirt competed with the subject. He looks like an angel but when I was trying to take the shot he was being a stinker and rolling around so I got the shot that I could at the moment.

Thank you again for your C&C, I really do take good advice and put it to use!

It is endearing because some viewers are filling in all that is missing with their own memories and projecting those memories on this picture.

But that's most of what many successful photographs DO...

Good photographs evoke. This photograph evokes. Technical details be damned.

ETA: I am happy as a clam to agree to disagree on this. The technical C&C are all perfectly correct, the ONLY point we differ on is how much that matters, and I am totally uninterested in fighting about it. Ok, except for this post. Ooops. I promise to stop here.

i like this post. photos are more than technical details. understanding how a people react to the photos due to personal experiences/feelings/perspective is just as important. the previous post describing why you liked it (even if it's personal) is useful and important to understand.

that said (even technical details aside) i'm still not a huge fan of this photo. i think the technical CC has been well covered, but why this doesn't work for me is the tightness. due to the perspective, it just looks like a tight crop to me. i don't get the snuggly feel that amolitor gets. i think a wider angle lens (even if it's still framed that tightly around the subject) would give me more of the feeling of a baby being close to me. i think the 50mm on a crop is just too telephoto-ed to give a natural field of view for me.

Overexposure is not an issue now.. but the shadow on his lower face is much more noticeable now and distracting. (lower lip and down)

Sorry, doesn't do much for me. I don't like the angle, the crop or the blown highlights. The image just does not draw emotions out in me and I have 2 little ones. Too much hair, not enough detail on the face, too much overblown skin tones that lack any type of detail and that look overly smooth to me.
