Difference in grain with different software?

When I print a BW image with the Epson printer software, grain is sharp. When I use Elements for the same image the print comes out with fuzzy grain.

Why the difference?

Are you printing images made with a digital camera, or a film camera?

Digital images don't have grain, they have image noise.

Scanned film images can have both grain and image noise.

It is very hard to get a good black and white print from a consumer printer, what model printer and how many inks does it have ? for b+w prints i always send out to a top printers

Problem is not the printer. Just get different looks if run through Elements vs Epson's software.

Probably because you have Elements set up wrong for your printer not sure if you can use your printer profiles in elements

Elements is consumer grade software, and doesn't have most of the more advanced output control and management features the professional grade of Photoshop, CS 3, 4, 5, 6 has.
