Dillion Reservoir is in Dillon Colorado just off I-70...next to Frisco Colorado. It's an easy drive from Denver, probably a hair over an hour drive in good conditions. This shot looks like it was taken from the Frisco side around Mt Royal.

I've spent a little time in this area. I also highly recommend Echo Lake or Mt Evens around Idaho Springs. The roads are closed for the season for Mt Evens but you can still drive up to Echo lake weather permitting.

Thanks for the kind words, and to Tailgunner for the location detail. Almost a random shot as we were leaving the area after spending several days in Breckenridge. Crazy how those "pull over a moment" quick stops can lead to the best memories.

Cool, then you should really check it out. The lake/reservoir has a nice hiking/biking path just as you cross the damn on the left side of the street. You can generally find some parking spots along side the road. As you walk the path, look for a part of the path going to the left near the lake. There is a bench seat and some kinda of small wooden structure. If you venture off the path down to the lake walking to the right. It want belong before you get a nice view of Mt Royal against the lake.

FYI: This area produces some pretty cool sunset colors looking straight across the lake similar to the view from the above photo...near the bench and structure.

It does look really nice there! I asked DH this morning and he said he had heard of it. His next spot on the list is turquoise lake. Ever heard of that spot??
