Grand Canyon

Visited the grand canyon for the first time. I will say it was the least impressive of all the places I went in Utah that trip. I found arches and valley of the gods to be more interesting as well as monument valley. Canyon land is bigger but the Grand Canyon is deeper.

It’s nicer near sunset in winter, especially if you can get some storm clouds in.

I want to go one winter but I was at the overland expo in May in Flagstaff.

Lovely shots! South Rim?

The North Rim is definitely more challenging to get to; hence it's less dominated by people. Higher elevation, and you have the Kaibab Plateau nearby.

True but it was closed due to the fire when I was there but I agree

Back in the day when I was working in Telecom, traveling all over the western United States, I passed the sign on the road from Winslow AZ that pointed north to the southern rim of the Grand Canyon many times.

I was always in too big of a hurry to get to the next worksite, to find a Motel, and just get a bite to eat and rest before having to do my job.

But one time, when I was on a Journey from Richardson Texas to Reno Nevada, I had a few days to kill.

I took the backroads mainly, stopping at Billy the Kid's Grave, going through Winslow Arizona singing that famous song, just taking my time and seeing parts of the country that I had never seen.

I had no real plans, other than to skirt through Las Vegas to see a friend, so when I saw the sign for the Grand Canyon, I turned up the road.

I was surprised at the line to get in. It was early yet I had to wait a few minutes for my turn, to PAY! I had no idea one had to pay but I figured since I was there and all, here ya go. The nice lady at the toll gate told me that when the park gets full, they hold people at the gate and let one car in for every car coming out.

Now, when I got to the parking area and finally got to walk to the "edge", I was amazed. Really, I was at a loss for words.

I can sincerely say that it found it to be far more than I ever thought it would be. More beautiful, more huge, more everything.

It is truly something that pictures struggle to do justice.

I can only hope to one day see the arches and valley of the gods.

If what you say is true, I will not be disappointed!
