love it, but I kinda wonder what it would look like very slightly desaturated.

I tried it but didn't like it; all the contour displayed by the sediment faded and it got too blah.

Here's what I thought so far as an edit went:

I think it was more the vignette than the saturation, though I did still pull the saturation back a bit. I liked the stranger's hand and the texture of the waves, plus I put a bit more detail back in the dipper's hat. Not sure that one is "better" I guess just more a matter or taste. I think in general I like a bit more going on in an image than you do, so that may be some of the difference as well.

looks like a snapshot to me. What gives it some merit is it is a overseas shoot so it maintains some mild interest. So thanks for posting it. Stuff from other places does add something to it.
