What's new

:( disappointed

I didn't do it right but I like the look of the light behind them. I know that the sky looks all exposed but that's something I think can be really pretty when done right. From my understanding I should be using a speed flash to get the look I'm wanting though.

So How do I work with the lens I have to capture more than one person? I am going to be shooting a small family in the morning and don't want my pics to be all out of focus like I feel these were:(

Use you 18-55mm lens if you have one.

Don't have one but I'm looking for one.

I haven"t forgotten Dee. I will post pics of the maternity session I did this morning. I am in the middle of PP and working on them. I will show them to my client tomorrow then post them.

I still can't figure out how to upload on here!

Figured it out!

So these are from my reshoot. I'm much happier but still obviously need improvement! And tips would be awesome!

Number 1: Underexposed and the pose does not flatter the model at all.

Number 2: Much better, but the focus is a little flat. Also the angle and composition is a bit off. You should have taken a few steps to the right. That way you would have caught more of her face. Also, it is the same pose as the first one. Never do the same pose more than once.

Number 3: Again, get more of her face in the shot. A little soft and you cropped a bit of her foot.

Thanks for the tips Scoody! I was upset about the focus in #2 also. I loved the light to much not to save it though. I probably should have had her turn her head and shoulders a bit towards me but moving further to the right would not have worked well for me being that I was on a dock:p I also wasn't so sure about the pose or doing it more than once wish I hadn't but I think it was the first time she looked relaxed without absolutely horrible posture and I tried to hold on to that:/ By soft what do you mean exactly and how do I fix it? Dang with the whole foot issue! I think I was so concentrated on lighting and the upper half of the photo that I didn't notice the feet:/ This is serious work! But I'm so glad you're willing to help me see things a little differently so I can improve! Thanks soooo much for spending your time to help me out! By the way... I haven't forgotten about your shoot! How did it go? Can I get a look at some of those photos?

By soft I mean that they are a little out of focusand not tack sharp. Using manual focusing helps most photographers her. I rely on auto focus because because I am blind as a drunk pig and what is sharp focus to me through the view finder is probably just a blur to someone else. My latest maternity shoot is here >>>>>>>>>> Here You Go!

Ok, so I looked at your gallery. My first thought is that you need to study and practice a ton more. Exposures are all over the place, composition is non-existent, Subjects are stiff and uncomfortable, white balance is off. Postprocessing is a definite need when you have bellies. You dont want to see all the imperfections.

Credit to you - You actually got off the computer and took some portraits. Do it again, again, and again.

Based on the portraits, I'm guessing you shot at sunset, with a kit lens. Which means, tripod and slow shutter or High ISO, because you can't shoot at f2.8 or wider. My thought is that you had a slow shutter and no tripod which causes the out of focus problems.

You really need to get a grasp on getting proper exposures and then work on composition.
