Wow...I just got two today and I haven't even been out here to post in like forever. I'm with patdock, I don't want any part of this pm messaging. Disgusting:thumbdown::thumbdown:

So you received a spam message like me and you haven't posted on here for ages either?

I reckon its a ploy by the site owners to encourage people who have posted on here once or twice to come back!!!

(thats a joke btw!)

I just sent me PM to Arch - the naughty person was immediately banned - impressed how quickly these guys were stamped out. Thanks

Wasn't it the accompanying emails that caused the biggest uproar? The Mods could not remove those from the receiver's inbox, but the option to avoid having them sent is available when registering, and after registering.

As soon as we realized what was happening we were banning people as soon as they had signed up. But many thanks for reporting it

Normally PM's are private and Admins don't have the ability to read them or even see the titles. It's kind of like a morality issue. In fact, for phpBB, there's only like one or two mods that let you do this and they're generally frowned upon by the whole community. So unless you actually let some one know about the PM's, the mods and admins will probably go on being clueless until they receive them.

Security can be a big issue with a board and although it's easy enough to keep out bots, it's almost impossible to keep a human from spamming your forums. That's why when you see spam, the best thing you can do is report it.

Instead of people jumping on, starting new threads, complaining, whining, and generally smarting off about how disgusting it was and "if this is the kind of forum I've joined then I'll be leaving" kind of stuff, I just wanted to tip my hat off to the moderators of the forum for responding to the "attack" such as they did. Many have stated they did NOT receive anything, as nor did I, which says something about how the moderators were quick to handle it and get it sorted.

Great job moderators!

If you can't handle seeing porn spam when on the internet, as it is everywhere you go on the internet, perhaps you should just give up and not go online. Don't immediately jump into a new thread and berate how horrible the forum is and how bad the moderators are because something like this happened.

This certainly isn't new stuff to internet forums....

No way to stop or prevent this stuff besides the moderators going through some grueling process in order for people to join...If they did that noone would join. Internet is basically use at your own risk. I'd be more about a computer virus than porn. Ever hear of just ignoring the Private messages? Can they be turned off anyways.

Just letting you guys know that we've made some changes that should prevent similar situations from reoccurring. Unfortunately, spam (as stated in a previous thread) is a multi-million dollar (if not multi-billion dollar) business. That being the case, we can't guarantee a spam-free forum, but we will continue to do the best we can to keep on top of things. If most of you were to see the volume of inappropriate content we DO catch, I think you would be very surprised, but we are still sorry when something does get through.

I did received those e-mails, looked at them and delete them end of story. I don't know how many time this has happened but since I joined the forum last november is the first time I get a spam in my forum inbox. that is not bad... great Job!!!
