I made fleece straps for a harness for a dog with sensitive skin once. If I can cut and sew one, anybody can. It's pretty easy and would at least give some scratch protection from all that metal. All you have to do is cut a length of it, the sew it up lenghtwise and slip it over whatever you want.

I'll check my local hobby store for it. Thanks for the idea. If I go with the thing Derrel recommended (or one they have similar at Home Depot), the screws won't be there.

So I went back to the drawing boards on this one. Concept was nice but you guys pointed out a few things:
1) the acid green had to go
2) the clamps were obnoxious and could tear up my gear
3) Derrel suggested the alternative ferrule and stop.
4) the metal needed to be covered in plastic/rubber

So I made loops around each end (one threaded through the post of the battery grip). I used electrical heat shrink wrap to cover the green in black. I then used the ferrule and stop on each end and hammered it down. I then used plasti-dip to coat each of the ferrules. Much more pleased with this. It's black, sleek and can hold a sh*t ton of weight.

The other mod I'm doing with this is replacing the carabiner provided by the company with a link and shackle. Yeah, it may look obnoxious, but it's less obnoxious than the green
