Now, I did shoot at the last Paris Auto Show but the shots were not about showing off the cars. They were about showing off the excitment the cars created which is a very different story.

Too late now, but one thing I do is wait... lots of waiting... for people to move. If you stand in one spot with your camera, eventually you'll get a break with no people. Just gotta be patient. Use a more shallow DOF, to keep all the background 'junk' out of the shot, or at least not as sharp as your subject. Close-ups of bits of cars can make nice shots as well. It doesn't always have to be the whole thing. Most people seem to like to shoot 3/4 shots from the front, finding alternate angles helps to change things up a bit.. don't be afraid to get on the ground if you have to.. hah.
