What's new

Do you ever use full auto, creative auto, effect, or any preset setting?

Some of you use program mode or aperture priority mode. When you shoot indoor, do you use flash all the times?

Yep. I use a SEF42A on my NX300 and a SB600 on my Nikons for shooting around the house and multiple flash setups for anything more staged.

I use Av mode almost exclusively for run-n-gun shooting, and M mode almost exclusively when the key light is flash.

I've been shooting DSLR for about 3 and a half years now and I'm not sure I've snapped a single photo using full auto or a scene mode. Yes, I actually bothered to learn how to manually set exposure on a PnS camera before jumping ship to DSLR.

That's not to say that you can't get fabulous photos using auto or scene modes; I'm simply saying I don't use them because, frankly, they suck all of the fun out of photography for me.

They're supposed to be "quick", but I'd probably end up wasting more time trying to figure out what the camera has chosen to do on my behalf than I would spend manually setting the camera to what I want.

I have used miniature (like a tilt/shift thing) on the d7100 - as I was shooting down a random shot of people in my back yard.

Worked pretty well, although it's just like a line of blue on 2 edges of the photograph.

I use the "running guy" mode all the time.

Actually I will use shutter priority/manual when using older TTL flashes. I was thinking about this thread just now and what might be more or just as significant is which metering mode do you use. 3D Matrix, centre-weighted average or spot.

Aperture priority, shutter priority. That's it.

I figure that since I bought the camera, I might as well test out all its features and modes, otherwise I wasted my money. Although some may be "limited" others are useful in some lighting or other situations.

I've never owned a SLR with an Auto or Scene mode. The closest thing has been the Program mode on my D300. And I still don't see what the value of that mode is...

I think the scene, presets, and auto modes are like bonus or complimentary features. These are like generic stuffs.

The old Olympus C5050, C7070, C8080 do nice looking B&W, straight out the camera.
