Take out the DIY part and the question is just this:

What light modifications should I use to get this spotlight-type lighting effect?

THAT'S what I was asking. I'm just simply planning on DIYing it... cause I iz po'.

Drive by a road construction site and steal an orange traffic cone. Apply judicious use of utility knife and flat black spray paint.

Try some disposable, aluminum pie plates or containers and thin strips of electrical tape to make a grid.
