Do you use CF + SD in your D800?

I'm coming from a D7000 so I only own SD cards. I planned on sticking with just SD cards until I saw some demonstrations of SD cards not being up to par.
Anyone use both CF & SD cards or just SD cards? I'd hate to deem these San Disk extreme cards useless (30MB/s).

I didn't plan on spending $100 on an SD card, so if I buy them, they will be the 60MB/s variety.

I use both... I usually shoot JPG and Raw... JPG to SD, Raw to CF. CF is so much faster than SD, it is worth it.

Although I'm a Canon shooter, I found the 30mb/s CF cards adequate for my older 30D. But after moving up twice to a Canon 5D3, to get the data transfer speeds needed, it's the high end Sandisk...16 GB Extreme Pro memory cards, both SD and CF (90 mb/s each). My camera is set for RAW on the CF, JPG on the SD. I have 2 of each and keep 2 of the older 45 mb/s cards I have as 'overflow', in case I fill up the 16mb on each card.

Will the 30 mb/s cards work OK in your new camera? Absolutely. Can you shoot 6 fps with them without having the transfer speed becoming a limiting factor, probably. For me, the transfer rate of the card(s) isn't a problem except when I review the shots I took. When I had to wait more than a second for the first to appear, I knew it was time to get faster cards.

I've got the Lexar 1000x 128GB CF and the 600x 128GB SD, I have them setup as backup mode. Very useful when you forget to return the CF to the camera to resume shooting.

From the research I am doing, apparently using a slower card in the SD slot bottlenecks your CF cards performance. So, a faster card in the CF slot and a slower one in the SD slot is seemingly counter productive.
What are your thoughts on that?

That I get, but if you have a slower performing card in the SD slot, the faster card in the CF slot isn't utilized at it's max speed, but the speed of the SD card... or so I've been reading.

I use either card for RAW, but then again I don't shoot sports nor any other fast action. Its a wash.

That I get, but if you have a slower performing card in the SD slot, the faster card in the CF slot isn't utilized at it's max speed, but the speed of the SD card... or so I've been reading.

I wish they had put two CF slots in.. and left the SD out! lol! A write is a write is a write. A format is a write. With both cards in the camera, It takes about 1 second to format the 32 gb CF card. It takes about 5 seconds to format the 32gb SD card. So something is faster??? Whether it writes the images that way? I don't know!

I use both, the SD card I just pick up a Sandisk or whatever class 10 45mb/s card for cheap. For the CF, for raw and especially continuous shooting raw, Lexar 1000x CF.

I love the D800! buy the fastest card you can afford. like everyone else, I have cf and sd running in mine.

wait til you see what it can do in low light!
