does a mannequin work for learning light?

Looking at getting a basic mannequin to practice with in the studio. just wondering if it would be worth it for learning light, or if the texture of mannequin is too reflective, or different from skin that it wouldnt help much.

Best money you'll ever spend, better than any new lens or lighting gear. I know several pros who test light set-ups this way. Even if the agency sends over Test girls, it still requires interacting with another human being (who will be on Facebook most of the time) and this gives you the chance to work at night, alone, and just play endlessly with rim lights, softboxes, angles, etc.

she is a bit over 5 feet tall, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. I was just concerned it would be very small at that price.

The mannequin linked to is not moveable. You only get the one pose.

The difficult part would be creating scale sized lighting modifiers to what you currently have. But if everything was set up to scale.
