Does it just take experience?..

its all good. i started with a film SLR over 4 years ago, but always used it in auto mode. Then i went to a casio point and shoot (not much manual features on that) then i went to a more advanced sony P&S with quite a few manual options but still restrictive. I've only been shooting with a dSLR for about a year and 3 months or so. So of course, i'm still learning, but i wouldnt say i'm learning too slowly or anything... I'm a yearbook photographer so i'm shooting fairly frequently and everyone is always happy with my work
