Does Picnik.com damage photos?

Elements will provide most people all of the editing capabilities they will ever need. PS has capability that goes well beyond what most people need. Do you plan on going pro at some point? If no, Elements will be fine.

Honestly, I don't know if I would ever go pro. I would need a few more years of practice before I even thought of going pro. I am stilling learning my camera and only have the kit lenses. For now, I just want to build skills and maybe take some beautiful portraits of my daughter. I am taking a few photography classes that start in a couple weeks. Maybe I will stick with Elements for a while if thats all I would probably need.

Sounds like a good plan.

Elements and CS5 are very similar. The transition is easy to make.

If you can get CS5 Extended Student Edition for only $199, I say get it.

Elements has so much less capability compared to CS5.

The Camera Raw Elements has is heavily de-featured compared to the Camera Raw CS5 has.

There are just so many features and functions CS5 has that Elements doesn't. I used to say Elements had 85% of what CS had, but on closer examination I now say that Elements has about 30% of what CS has.

The biggies are: Bridge, 16-bit edits, better selection tools, easier masking, more options for layer styles, more options for background selection (I just learned about one I didn't know CS5 had, thanks to my NAPP membership), more agjustment layers, more Curves and Levels options, more tools, and more.

I had a friend tell me..Never tell a photographer you use picnik! I used to use it, but she let me have lightroom, and Im hooked :)
