Does the soft focus work in this photo???

I like it, except I would have liked the eyes to be a tad sharper/more in focus. But otherwise, I think it works ok. Are her eyes really that color?

I know nothing about portraiture but I'll offer this.
You seem to have captured the essence of what a small child is. The softness that adds to this effect makes it, go.
I do feel that this could be made better with slight saturation. Other than that, I think you may have a keeper there.
Technically, some will add that you chopped the top of the girls head. In this case, I think it works.

The hair seems to be in sharp focus, so I'd say no, it doesn't work.

They do that in all of her photos, usually I go in and desaturate them back to white. As for the overall look of the photo, I applied a cold tone filter in post, I thought it added to the softness of the photo.

Exactly what I was thinking.
If the soft focus was done in post bring back the eyes.
If done in the camera use hi pass and a mask to bring back the eyes as best as you can but even as is it's a beautiful shot.
