I guess if I have to ask the question I already know the answer but I just wanted you guy's opinion. I'm always looking for improvements. Thanks for the input in advance.

I think your DoF could work if you had your focus on the subject. Right not you have it on a point on the outter rim. Try focusing on the F or maybe try where the F and the bolt meet.
Keep shooting!!

If you are wanting that image to "pop".. yes, DOF is a little short (as you already know!) :) 1.4 can be hard to work with, it is so shallow!

EDIT: What Mishele said! lol! I still don't think the 1.4 will give you enough to cover the "F" and "bolt" adequately.. but worth a try.

It does seem a little shallow to me. At f/1.4, I'd say you have a lot of DOF to play with.

I see what you're saying. I think I'm going to give it another try with a little more depth and center the focus a little better. I felt like something wasn't quite right and I just couldn't put my finger on it. You nailed it mishele. The focal point was off for such a shallow DOF. Thanks for the input guys! I can always count on the forum for insight.

What lens are you using? I see a bit of CA.

The canon 50 1.4
I think most of the CA is coming from the fact that I was almost macro close to the subject with 1.4 aperture.

Few prime lenses focus tack sharp wide open, and need to be stopped down at least a couple of stops.

They make wide aperture lenses with that need to stop down in mind, and less so that the lens can be used wide open to produce an ultra shallow DOF.
