Downtown Festival Photography- Digital AND Film

I shot at this fourth of july weekend festival we have in downtown dayton, with both my Nikon D70 and my new N70, which is my wonderful new film camera. I love the way the kodak film turned out and I think I did a fairly decent job color-grading the digital shows. I actually got a nice handful of good shots for only being there a couple hours, but I'll actually just post my top 4, 2 from the film and 2 from digital. Critique/feedback is always nice to hear, helps me improve all the time. Hope you all enjoy them, thanks for stopping by

You haven't mentioned anything about wanting critique, so I'm not going to critique.

I just want to say - that tattooed guy is amazing. I mean look at him! The cat whiskers are the best thing for me.

Dude was super super chill though, rode a recumbent bicycle into the square and just chilled and people-watched. He asked for a dollar to take his portrait and I had to- couldn't pass up a portrait like that for just a buck

I'll make a comment on #1 if I may; dance photography is my thing. I note that it was shot with film, not digital, so you were limited in the number of shots you could take. Dance is an art form, a dancer's interpretation of music. Hossam Ramzy calls it a "visual Melody." When photographing dance you should be aiming to capture an instant of that visual melody. Look for capturing movement, look for passion reflected in the dancer's face and body positioning.

In #1 I don't see that. That may be because the dancer wasn't showing any of the above; there are lots of dancers who are still working towards discovering how to interpret the music. The other shots all have something that captures the imagination but #1 (for me) looks like a snapshot.

Like everyone else my favourite is the guy with the tats! He's awesome and well worth a dollar!

Interesting take and thank you for crititquing. I really love the idea of capturing dance as a melody, however my aim here wasnt so much to capture her dancing as capturing an image that I found appealing through my lens and capturing a "day in the life of" sort of thing. Street photography basically, although thats still pretty vvauge

I like numbers Two and Three the most. Three has to be the strongest overall but Two with some of the top area cropped out is a very nice image.

No no its totally cool and it has now sparked my interested in a new form of photography. How'd you get into it + what kind of specialized gear would i need + how do i get into events to shoot like that?
