Downtown

Just bought a Nikon 3200 about two weeks ago and went to downtown Portland, OR. to take a few shots. Still in progress in learning the settings, so any helpful suggestions are welcome!

Both are pretty decent, nicely exposed, nicely composed and framed.
The signs are both helpful to set the scene but intrusive as they draw attention but they are an integral part so ther's nothing to be done.
Keep on shooting, good start.

I would say great start! The second photo I would say is a little dark. When I shoot night scenes with no stars I would go lower on the ISO and longer exposure time. When I zoom in the focus seems a little off. I know it's hard to focus at night but take test shot at 6400 iso and zoom in and check the focus. If there are stars and you don't want them trailing use the 500 rule. 500 divided focal length and that will give you seconds of exposure before trailing starts. So 500/55=9.06 seconds so go 8 or 10 second exposure and adjust iso and f stop accordingly.
